The 9th Annual Steve Gambill Memorial
Cancer Classic Fishing Tournament!

All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society!
This all started when tournament director and founder Chris Vitovich lost a good friend to cancer in January 2001. You can read more about Steve Gambill and how this tournament began by clicking history in the menu at left.

With your help, and our wonderful sponsors, we have raised nearly $85,006.00 in nine years, all of which went to the American Cancer Society.

So while we know you'll have a great time fishing, and possibly go home with a trophy- we hope you feel even better about contributing to a cause that touches so many of us.

A trophy for top 3 in each division plus top 3 among Juniors!
There are 2 divisions you can choose to compete in.
All participants receive a certificate from the American Cancer Society.
(please register at this website to help us prepare certificates. Fees are listed on registration page also)

Participants present their top five eligible fish (see below) at weigh-in. The cumulative weight of all 5 fish is recorded for ranking. Winners and trophies are presented during the picnic which begins at 3:00.

Bass Only Division: 5 Fish Per Boat

(Bass only of course, Artificial bait only, and each bass must be at least 12”)

Open Division: 5 Fish Per Person
(Live or artificial bait allowed, and only state size limits)
If fishing from Boat: The fish you present must be Bass, Crappie, or Catfish.
If fishing from Shore: Weigh in whatever you catch.

Junior Division: 5 Fish Per Person
Those age 15 and under compete against each other- whether they be on boat or shore. (If in a boat- Junior and all others in boat must be in same division.)

See Rules section on menu for complete regulations.

Coffee, Doughnuts, Bait, -We got you covered.
We start collecting registration fees as early as 5:00 AM.
The blast off is 6:30 AM (or later if waiting on acceptable light)
So come somewhere in between and grab some free coffee and Krispy Kreme doughnuts, shop the bait store (artificial and live available), and check out your competition. It's fun just to see all the boats, the gear, and the excitement that early in the morning.

Of course, if you're not worried about someone taking that favorite fishing spot, you can wait for the morning blast off groups to leave, and start whenever you like. Just be back by 2:30 PM (Bass Only) or 2:45 PM (Open) when we close weigh in.

Juniors division (shore fishing or by boat!)
Can you think of a better way to spend some time with a young person (under 16)? They can join you in a boat, or cast with you from the shore. Not only are they given discounted entry fees, but buy one junior ticket, and a second is admitted free. They get their own participation certificates from the American Cancer Society, and compete only against other juniors in the same division for some very nice trophies.

Enjoy the outdoors, spend some quality time, and have them know they made a difference in our world with a good cause. Like we said, Can you think of anything better?

Picnic has free food, live music, and desserts!
A picnic is just the thing to wrap up an excellent fishing day. You can meet your family there, or share the complimentary food and drink with a buddy talkin' about the one that got away. And while your eating in any of the grassy park areas, look at what you might enjoy:
  • Live music and guitar over amplified high fidelity speaker system.
  • Pig Roast.
  • Raffles being announced.
  • dessert table might have something with your name on it.
  • space to throw ball or a Frisbee.
  • Boating and fishing sponsors show off some product.
  • Have your picture taken and be part of this website if you like.

Whether you throw some good picnic stuff in with your tackle, or just help yourself to all the great free food under our hospitality tent- we hope you'll stay after weigh-in and hang out with us for an hour or more. We announce raffle ticket winners, sponsors, and tournament winners during this time also.

Did we mention great free food?

  • more- we'll try to post some of the many more soon. And more and more show up all the way to tournament day, so it's not possible to list them all.
  Big Fish Award!
Of course cash is always a nice prize too. For those wishing to enter, you can drop your name and $5.00 in the Big Fish jar. To whichever name in that jar brings in the biggest single fish, gets half the kitty. The other half goes to the American Cancer Society along with all other proceeds.
